Build your music library from YouTube
YouTube and YouTube Music together host one of the world's largest music catalogs — including remixes, rare live performances, DJ sets, regional music, and tracks that never made it to Spotify or Apple Music. SnapVid lets you save any of it as MP3 audio files you own outright.
The difference between SnapVid and a YouTube Premium subscription: Premium downloads live inside YouTube's app, expire when your subscription ends, and can't be moved to your music library or car stereo. SnapVid downloads are regular MP3 files. They play in every app, transfer via USB, sync to your iPod, work in your car — and they never expire.
Most modern music on YouTube has 256 kbps source audio, which we offer as 256 kbps or 320 kbps MP3. Older uploads and amateur content may cap at 128 kbps. SnapVid shows you exactly what's available before you download.
What you can download from YouTube Music
- Official song uploads: Artist-uploaded music videos, official audio releases.
- Albums and EPs: Full albums as playlists — download track by track.
- Live performances: NPR Tiny Desk, Boiler Room sets, concert recordings.
- DJ sets and mixes: 1001Tracklists, Mixcloud-style sets re-hosted on YouTube.
- Remixes and edits: Bootlegs and mashups not available elsewhere.
- Regional / international music: Music that never charted in your country but is huge elsewhere.
- Soundtracks: Movie, game, and anime soundtracks compiled by fans.
Organizing your downloaded music library
After downloading a bunch of MP3s, organize them into folders by artist and album. Most music players (iTunes, Plex, Plexamp, Musicolet, Symfonium) auto-detect this structure:Music/Artist Name/Album Name/01 - Track Title.mp3
Use a tool like Mp3tag (Windows / Mac), Kid3 (cross-platform), or Music Tag Editor (mobile) to add proper ID3 tags — title, artist, album, year, genre, cover art. Most music apps look prettier when these are set.
Step-by-step
- Find the song on YouTube or YouTube Music. Copy its URL.

- In the MP3 / Audio section, click Download next to your preferred quality (320 kbps for best music quality).
- Move the MP3 into your music library folder.
- Optionally add ID3 tags and cover art using Mp3tag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download from YouTube Music (music.youtube.com)? +
Yes — YouTube Music URLs work with SnapVid the same as regular YouTube. Just paste the music.youtube.com URL or copy the share link from the YouTube Music app.
Will I get album art / cover image with the download? +
Audio files include basic metadata (title, artist when available) but YouTube doesn't always embed cover art in the audio stream. You may need to add cover art manually using a tool like MP3 Tag Editor or Mp3tag.
How is this different from YouTube Premium offline mode? +
YouTube Premium downloads are stored inside YouTube's app — they expire if you cancel Premium, can't be moved off-device, and can't be played in other apps. SnapVid gives you actual MP3 files you own forever.
Is downloading music from YouTube legal? +
Depends on the country and your use. Personal-use copies are legal in some jurisdictions but violate YouTube's Terms of Service. For copyrighted music, buying from Bandcamp / iTunes / Amazon is the legal route. Use SnapVid for Creative Commons music, your own uploads, or content you have permission for.
Can I download whole albums? +
Album playlists work the same way as any playlist — one video at a time. See our Playlist Downloader page for the workflow.
Does SnapVid work for live music recordings and DJ sets? +
Yes. Live concerts, DJ sets, and long mixes work the same as any video. File sizes will be larger (a 2-hour set at 320 kbps is around 270 MB) but the process is identical.
