Short version
SnapVid does not require accounts, doesn't ask for personal information, and does not store records of which videos you download. We use minimal technical caching to speed up the service. Aggregate analytics may be collected. That's the whole story.
1. What information we collect
We collect minimal information for the service to function:
- YouTube video IDs you query. When you paste a URL, we extract the video ID and look up its formats. This ID is cached for four hours so repeated lookups are fast. The cache contains no information that identifies you.
- Standard server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) records IP address, timestamp, and request path for each visit. These logs are kept for a short period for abuse prevention and are automatically deleted.
- Aggregate analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to measure page views and general traffic patterns — which pages are visited, approximate country, device and browser type, and the site you arrived from. Google Analytics sets cookies; see sections 3 and 4.
2. What we do not collect
- Names, email addresses, or contact information (we have no signup).
- Payment details (the service is free).
- A record linking specific downloads to specific users.
- The actual video files you download — those go directly from YouTube's CDN to your device, never through our servers.
3. Cookies
SnapVid uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies (named _ga and similar) to measure how many people visit and which pages are popular. These analytics cookies are not used to show you ads. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may also set short-lived security and performance cookies, such as bot-detection cookies. You can block or delete any of these cookies through your browser settings without affecting the downloader.
4. Third parties
SnapVid uses a third-party API service to fetch YouTube video metadata. Only the video ID is passed to this service — your IP, location, and identity are not shared. We also use Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google) to understand site traffic. Google Analytics collects data such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device type, and sets cookies to recognise returning visitors. We do not give Google your name or any contact details. See Google's privacy policy for how Google processes this data.
When you click Download, your browser connects directly to YouTube's CDN (googlevideo.com). Google may log that connection. SnapVid has no control over Google's logging.
5. Advertising
We may display advertising to support the service. Ad networks may set their own cookies to measure ad performance. If we add ads, this policy will be updated with the specific ad network's privacy disclosures.
6. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Because we do not collect personal information tied to identifiable users, there is no personal data to request, modify, or delete. If you have concerns or specific requests, contact us via the address in our Contact page.
7. Children
SnapVid is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be marked at the top of this page with a new "Last updated" date.
